Guide to the Wessex Heavy Horse Show 2017

The Gillingham and Shaftesbury Showground (sometimes referred to as the Motcombe Turnpike Showground) is located off the B3081 between Gillingham and Shaftesbury. Its postcode is SP7 9PL. If arriving by car it is recommended that you access the site via the turning off the B3081 at the Turnpike Kennels and Cattery (SP7 9PN), avoiding Motcombe Road (which is single-track in places). Parking for the show is FREE if you use the show carparking.

Directions by Car from the A303 NE (Mere/Andover or Salisbury)

Leave the A303 at the junction marked B3092 (second junction along that section of dual carriageway, signposted for Mere and Zeals). Turn left at the T junction onto Castle Street. Take the first right, opposite the candle factory, and follow the B3092 all the way into Gillingham. Turn right at the first roundabout, passing Gillingham Tyre Center on the left, keeping along the B3092 (now called Le Neubourg Way). Follow on straight through Gillingham (the road merges with the B3081, but that is not obvious while driving in this direction). Take the third exit at the large roundabout (approximately straight on). The showground turning is the first road turning on the left, and the showground entrance is then approximately four hundred metres on your right.

Directions by Car from the A303 SW (Wincanton/Exeter)

Leave the A303 at the junction marked B3081 (Signposted for Bruton and Gillingham). You now need to loop back under the A303: turn left at the T-junction (B3081 signposted Shaftesbury and Blandford) then take the next left (signposted Honiton, Exeter, Shaftesbury and Blandford). Drive under the overpass, then turn right at the T junction (signposted Shaftesbury and Blandford), onto the B3081. Follow the B3081 all the way into Gillingham. Turn right at the T-junction with traffic lights. Follow on straight through Gillingham. Take the third exit at the large roundabout (approximately straight on). The showground turning is the first road turning on the left, and the showground entrance is then approximately four hundred metres on your right.

Directions by Car from the A350 N (Warminster)

Follow the A350 to the Ivy Cross roundabout in Shaftesbury (by the Esso garage). Take the third exit (B3081, signposted Gillingham). Follow the main road when it swings sharply to the right at crossroads, to stay on the B3081 and drive under the A30. Keep following the main road as it swings to the left and then to the right. Pass Port Regis School on the right, and the showground turning is the next turning on the right (immediately around a blind right-hand corner). The showground entrance is then approximately four hundred metres on your right.

Directions by Car from the A350 S (Blandford)

Follow the A350 to the Ivy Cross roundabout in Shaftesbury (up the hill past Tesco, by the Esso garage). Take the first exit (B3081, signposted Gillingham).
