The Ridden class will be a qualifier for Equifest 2016!

Planning for this year's show began right after the 2014 show, with the after-show Directors' Meeting to highlight what went right (quite a lot), what needs work (there's always room for improvement), and what we can add to continue with our mission to make this the best and biggest Heavy Horse Show in the South West. The date is set for September 27th, and the first showing class will again begin at 9am to make sure that we have time for everything on the packed schedule. New (or rather, revisited) for 2015 will be a ridden class for the heavies. If you are wondering why I say revisited, it is because we did have a ridden class a few years back, but interest swung instead towards the Ladies Cart class. This time around, we are planning to have both. Ridden horses will be shown under saddle by the competing rider; there are no plans to have them unsaddle in the ring or for the judge to ride them. We will also have all our other regular classes: In Hand, Harness, Turnout and Young Handlers.

West of England Harness Champion 2014

This year, as for many years in the past, we are pleased and grateful to have the sponsorship of Wadworth Brewery for the West of England In Hand and Harness Championships. Wadworth are one of the few breweries in the country that still deliver their products by horse drawn dray, and their support has been invaluable to us over the years. They have an excellent Visitor's Center at Devizes where you can see their horses and learn about their history, well worth a visit. Can I also use this moment to congratulate Wadworth on their success at the Royal Bath and West Show.

Terrier racing in 2014

The display arena will be seeing the return of the popular terrier racing from last year, and also a dressage display and quadrille. Bring the canine members of the family for the the Fun Dog Show as well. Vintage vehicles and stationary engines will be there. I'll keep you posted as more bookings are confirmed.

There is still trade stand and craft stall space available. Entry forms will be available for download soon; in the mean time, please use the contact page to ask for details. Downloadable posters and fliers for the event are online and available here.

Charities get a special rate for stalls. Anyone interested in bringing a static display of interest to the public is also invited to get in touch.
